Project Tikhvin was begun in 2010 as a youth endeavor of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad. The project is operated with the express blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America and New York as well as the blessings of hierarchs in Russia.
Each year a group of young people from all over the Russian Church Abroad journey to labor in the restoration of ancient holy sites in Northern Russia. For the past five years we have begun restoration of the 16th century monastery of the Entrance of the Mother of God in Tikhvin.
In addition to this work, the youth participate in social and cultural events that are unique to our Project Tikhvin. Every year we attend the parish feast of Ss. Peter and Paul and village celebration in Domino, which is the furthest parish to the East in the St. Petersburg Diocese. Many monasteries, churches and holy sites are visited where the youth worship, sing and serve the divine services.
On these trips our youth make fast friends with their peers in Russia and long term relationships develop which leads to a lifetime of friendships and meaningful encounters with countless numbers of the faithful.
